Frequently Asked Questions
Are you a licensed kitchen?
Yes I am! There are strict rules that I follow in order to comply with the law and remain a licensed kitchen. I am required to pass inspections by the Johnson County Public Health department on a yearly basis.
How much time do I need to give you to book an order?
The sooner the better! Typically, a five day notice should suffice, depending on how large your order is. An order of 12 will obviously take less time than an order for 120! To truly have your order in my calendar, I will need payment to reserve your spot.
Where do I pick up my order?
You may pick up your order at my home in North Liberty on the day and time we agree on. My address will be provided to you prior to pickup. I do not list it directly on the website, as it is my home and prefer that it not be listed.
I need to cancel my order, can I do that?
If I have not started your cookies, you may cancel your order with full refund. For sugar cookies, this is likely at least 5 days in advance of the date of pick-up as those cookies require several days to do and are done in steps.
Can you provide a nut-free or gluten-free option?
At this time, I cannot. I am a licensed kitchen but not a dedicated gluten-free kitchen, and there are nuts/peanut butter in use in our kitchen. I understand the complexities of needing something to be truly nut and gluten-free and would not feel comfortable selling a product that I could not guarantee as such.
Do you ship your cookies?
Yes! There are a couple ways I ship in order to give you the best price along with securely bubble wrapped cookies.
I will always ship Priority Mail (1 - 3 days) and have a tracking number for you.
Shipping can cost anywhere from $7-$15 per box depending on the amount of cookies ordered, and where you live in comparison to me. I can fit approximately 20 sugar cookies in one bakery box, with the bakery box padded and set inside the mailing box that is also padded. I take great care in packaging each cookie so that they arrive in perfect condition. I cannot, however, control how USPS handles the box.
Do you deliver your cookies locally?
Not at this time, but it is being considered.
Can I freeze your cookies and how do I do it successfully?
Yes! If the Famous 4th Avenue Cookies are not going to be eaten within the first few day or two, freezing is recommended. There are no preservatives in these cookies and they will only stay fresh for a limited amount of time at room temperature. Ziplock bags are fine for freezing. There is no special care needed for thawing the Famous 4th Avenue Cookie.
The sugar cookies also freeze very well, and if I am unavailable for the exact date you’d like, this is an option to still have cookies for the day you need them. To successfully freeze them, place them in an airtight container and place in freezer. If you have little room, you can try stacking them on their sides. Take them out the day before you need them and set them on the counter to thaw. Leave them be to do their thing. Excess moisture inside the bag can impact the design so please just let them slowly come back to room temperature undisturbed. If you know in advance that you will be freezing them, let me know and I will dust them with the tiniest bit of cornstarch prior to packaging (this helps absorb condensation). Then eat and enjoy! They will taste the same as the day I baked them!
Can you make cookies for our company with our logo on them?
Yes! I will need permission in writing to do so, but I would be happy to work with credit unions, banks, real estate agents, business offices, cafes, etc to create logo cookies for you and/or your clients. I will need to create a custom silkscreen for your logo or print it on an edible printer, which will be done by me in-house.
Can I sell your cookies in my boutique/cafe/store?
Yes! I am covered under my bakery license for this. Please contact me and we can discuss details.
